“I was self employed my whole working career so far. It was time for a job with steady pay and benefits. I heard great things about Iowa DOT from friends and family. I'm excited to help make roadways safer and work with a good team.”

“The position I applied for seemed really interesting and I have heard good things about working for the DOT. I am a retired school teacher and was very excited about using my hands to build the signs. ”

What makes you excited about your career with the DOT?
“Being able to grow within the agency and the ability to have hands on experience. I started my career as an Highway Technician Associate, then a Highway Technician Senior in the construction office, then on to District 5 Safety Garage Operation Assistant and now a Highway Maintenance Supervisor. The SKY is the limit! ”

“I chose to work for the DOT because I wanted to be part of an entity that made a difference in our state. My careers have always followed a path of being in a position where I am a small part of a greater picture and the IDOT is a perfect place to continue that.”
What makes you excited about your career with the DOT?
“I am excited to see the technology advancements that are happening and how the DOT is continually looking for ways to improve our service through use of newer technologies.”

“I enjoy my bureau’s dynamic because we make it a priority to discuss/ develop the core values and pillars of our culture regularly through team building, meetings, trainings, and events. My team consistently supports me and helps me grow into my position so that I can feel confident in my job duties. There are also many opportunities for continued learning available through LinkedIn and formal classes.”

“I work with a supportive team who make me smile and feel appreciated every day. I love meeting new people and helping them establish their driver’s license or identification needs. I may not be changing the world, but I am at least helping to make someone’s day a little brighter!”
